If you find tailors chalk a right old faff you may enjoy one of these vanishing pens. The pen itself doesn't vanish (unless you put it down and forget where), rather the ink will magically disappear in the air after a while and it will also wash away.

Use just like a felt tip to leave easy to see marks on your sewing project, which will vanish/wash out. That said make sure you test it first on the fabric of your choosing and that the fabric will be ok in the wash.

I tested in a piece of calico and there was only the slightest trace left after 24 hours. I also did a test on the same fabric and washed it in warm water with a gentle soap and there was no trace of it left.
